Clearly Claremohr

a few of my favorite things

in Weekly Newspaper Column Archives on 01/18/12

Lately, I’ve been in a bit of a slump, so I’m trying to focus on a few of my favorite things.   The old song performed by Julie Andrews in “The Sound of Music” is a great encouragement, and actually qualifies as one of my favorite things! Although, not everything mentioned in the lyrics is on my own personal list of favored items.

Raindrops on roses make the list, but not so much whiskers on kittens. (I don’t particularly care for any parts of a cat.)  But I love bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, so that puts me back in the game!

I do enjoy brown paper packages tied up with string.  And I’m totally on board with cream colored ponies (as long as I’m not in charge of them), crisp apple strudels, doorbells (when it’s good news), and sleighbells as part of an orchestra.  And Schnitzel is one of my most favorite foods of all time, but I’ve never had it with noodles.  I prefer it served with a nice, big, greasy side of fried potatoes.  If only that could fit into the song!

I’ve never actually seen “wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings.”  I looked online and found some beautiful pictures of geese flying across the moon, so I’m going to allow it on my list.  Hopefully, someday I will have the privilege of seeing such a sight in real life.  Kind of like when I finally saw a Toucan in the wild.  I had that as my goal for four years before it finally happened, and it was awesome!  That should also go on my list of favorite things: Seeing a Toucan in the wild.

Along with:  (sing together now!)

Blue jeans that still fit after the washing

Cheetos and D’ritos and Fritos for noshing

Hubby when he plays his music and sings,

These are a few of my favorite things!

Big comfy couches, and sweet smelling candles

Remodeled kitchens, and hubby’s love handles

Children who obey without arguing

These are a few of my favorite things!

Christmas and Easter, and Red, White, and Blue

Sisters and nieces, and nothing to do

Schnitzel and taters with hot grease dripping

These are a few of my favorite things!

Taxes figured

Scales aren’t broken

When I’m poor and fat

I simply remember my favorite things,

And then I don’t feel so bad!
