Erma Bombeck Writer’s Workshop

in Archives, Articles on 04/01/08

Tomorrow is the big day!  I’ve been waiting forever to attend the Erma Bombeck writer’s workshop in Dayton, Ohio.  They only hold it every other year, and this is the first time I’ve had the funds before it sold out.  I’ve been registered since last fall and I can’t believe it’s finally here!  I leave tomorrow and will return Sunday afternoon.  I’m not sure if I’m more excited about meeting Garrison Keillor or sleeping for four nights all alone in a hotel room with no crying babies!

When I was about 11 years old I discovered Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion and I couldn’t wait until Saturday nights when I could hide away in my room and listen to him on my little alarm clock radio. (This was one of the perks of being a preacher’s kid and not being allowed to listen to rock music.) His voice is incredibly soothing and his stories are wonderful.  I look forward to meeting him at the book signing this week.  I’ll probably cry because that’s what happens when I see famous people. Hubby is glad he won’t be with me to observe my embarrassment.  At least it’s not Barry Manilow.  I would be a sobbing wreck if that happened!! (This is what happens when you are a preacher’s kid and you aren’t allowed to listen to rock music.)

Well, I have some shopping to do.  Not sure what to wear and since I’m still post partum (three months is still post partum, right?) I don’t have much that fits.  If I can fit my behind into a pair of khakis I’ll probably buy those and wear them for most of the weekend.

I can’t wait until tomorrow!!!  And seriously, this has nothing to do with four nights alone in a hotel.  Really.  Nothing at all!
