Picture of Shelby

in Archives on 05/09/08

Everyone keeps asking why I only have pictures of the babies on my blog.  Well, first of all, there are pictures of the older kids, you just have to look a little harder to find them.  They’ve always enjoyed playing hide and seek!  Secondly, babies are…well…babies!  They get a lot more pictures taken!  If Abby looked like a kitten or Alex sat around sucking his toes, I’d take their pictures too.  Or maybe not….

Anyway, Shelby has been shortchanged the most around here, so I will post a recent photo of her.  My beautiful, soon to be sixteen-year-old daughter.

She has perfectly straight teeth, but has a major jaw malfunction.  Originally we thought it was TMJ, but it turns out that her teeth do not touch at all.  Since the moment we fed her her first solid food she learned to dislocate her jaw in order to chew.  After many years that naturally started causing severe headaches.  She wore a mouth piece for a couple of years in order to bring the joints back to where they were when she was born, now she is in braces for 9-12 months, and then she will have extensive, expensive surgery on her jaws and mouth.  It will be painful, but her jaw will be wired shut so we won’t have to hear about it. JUST KIDDING!!!

I am supposed to have a surgery like that… I have a pretty severe underbite but my teeth on the bottom leaned back naturally so I never knew. They are worried that it will wear the enamel on them prematurely… good news, most people lose 20-30 pounds during recovery… bad news… OOOUCH!
